Bajra Khichda | Bajre Ka Kheech.

Bajra Khichda.

Bajra ka khichda is a traditional Rajasthani dish made of Bajra, rice, and lentil. Traditionally known as Bajre ka Khich or Khichda, it is delicious, super healthy, and loaded with nutrients.

It is one of those recipes which is a must-try during the Winter season. Since Bajra keeps the body warm it is a great option to have.

Bajra Khichda or Bajra Khichdi is made using Bajra (Pearl Millet), Rice, and Moong Dal. It is usually eaten with lots of ghee and sugar. Some people like eating it with Marwaari Kadhi or you can even add vegetables and make it a Khichdi.

I personally love it by adding lots of ghee and sugar and it tastes fantastic.

The only time-consuming part to make this Bajra Khichdi is to remove the husk from the Bajra but nowadays it is readily available in supermarkets or on Amazon too.

How to eat?

In my household, we eat Bajra Khichda with Kadhi and I personally eat it with lots of ghee and sugar. The best part of this recipe is, you can add vegetables of your choice and make it Vegetable Khichdi with it too.

Benefits of Bajra Khichda/ Pearl Millet:

  • It is rich in Magnesium which promotes heart health.
  • Rich in Potassium and fibre.
  • The protein content in bajra is gluten free, making it a good change from the gluten heavy daily meals we consume.
  • Bajra is a rich source of insoluble fibre, which works as a pre-biotic in our gut, helping keep our digestive health in top form.
  • Great for Diabetes.
