  1. In a pressure cooker, add soaked moong dal and water. Pressure cook it well. It will take approx 2-3 whistles.
  2. Once the cooker is cooled down, whisk the daal using a laddle.
  3. In a kadhai, add oil + ghee. You can either use just ghee or oil. I use both as it gives a great taste and flavour. Once oil is heated add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, hing, split green chillies, bay leaf and dried red chili.
  4. Saute for a while and add chopped tomatoes. Cook tomatoes really well till they become a bit soft.
  5. Now is the time to add masala. Add haldi, red chilli powder and garam masala. Mix everything well.
  6. Now add the cooked daal and add water according to your preference. Add salt and mix it well.
  7. Let it boil for few more minutes and then garnish with chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot with roti, sabzi and achar.
  8. Serve it with a dallop of ghee. Tada!
Recipe Notes

Add chopped onions if you like.

Make it just with tomatoes if you are not fond of onion and garlic.

Adjust the masala according to your taste and preference.
